Last month, we were proud to work with Aspire Millsmont Academy of Oakland and fund their afterschool Fashion Club. The club supports kinders to 5th graders which were able to participate in exciting fashion design projects that kept students engaged in positive after-school activities. September’s project, “Design our Future”, funded these amazing student projects: decorating hats, pants, shirts, and more to be modeled in the culminating fashion show. Project funds went directly to a red carpet and spotlight, project art supplies, and a DJ.
We see the undeniable research that shows after-schools programs greatly prevent delinquency. More than that, they provide students with positive environments that boost self-confidence, increase time with role models and supply leadership opportunities. Unfortunately there are nearly 3,000 schools in low-income communities that do not have after school programs (www.fightcrime.org). From September 3rd – October 3rd the R.I.O.T. team sold close to 50 shirts to raise funds for Aspire Millsmont Academy’s Fashion Club. We are incredibly proud of their work and their investments in the lives of students in Oakland and support them all the way.
